Dear Families,
This week we don’t have a specific Unit theme. We are going to be completing some fun lessons that are kind of themed around the idea of Thanksgiving. Please see the schedule below for our lessons and any supplies you will need.
Monday 11/13: Science Portfolio - Animal and Plant Comparison
Tuesday 11/14: What is Thanksgiving? Learn about the history of Thanksgiving and why we celebrate it
Wednesday 11/15: Balloons Over Broadway - Learn about the Macy’s Day Parade and how it started.
Thursday 11/16: Balloons Over Broadway STEM Activity - We will be completing a fun activity today where your student will become a balloon designer, your student will need a pencil, paper, and various supplies they can use to decorate their art work (they also can choose to bring a balloon and actually decorate it for the parade).
Friday 11/17: Buddy Connections - We will meet as a K-4 family for a special assembly. Please see this FLYER for supplies that you can bring. The link for this Zoom room is on your student’s planner.
We are going to be doing a Holiday’s Around the World Unit December 4th - 8th. In order to plan appropriately, we would love to hear about what holidays that are special to your family, as well as what holidays your student might want to know more about (this are not limited to winter holidays, you can see a list of examples on the form below). We will be giving you a list of holidays we will be learning about in advance, and all of these Live Lessons will be optional for your student to attend. We understand that everyone might celebrate and believe different things, and we would love to embrace what traditions are special for our Kindergarten families and share it with each other during this time. :) Please fill out this FORM to let us know more about your traditions.
We will be having Reading Groups on Tuesday and Thursday!! We will be working on blending words using sounds that we have already learned, and segmenting these words into sounds so we can spell them. 🙂 Our goal is to build fluency when it comes to sounding out and reading/writing new words.
We have 5 school days before Thanksgiving break, and a total of 24 days before the end of first semester. I will be reaching out to each and every family to check in before Thanksgiving break and make sure that everyone has a plan for staying on track of finishing lessons by the end of first semester on January 5th. I am excited to check in with all of you!
I also made a special board for us to use to share our Kindergarten Memories throughout the year! I wanted you all to be able to share special events, important news, rockstar work, projects you are proud of, and just fun good things with each other. So if you have anything you want to share with me or our other kiddos, please post it to this Padlet! I can’t wait to see all the wonderful things you have to share this year!!
I have attached the fun Turkey in Disguise project from last week!! If you still would like to complete this project with your student and upload it to our Padlet, I know we would love to see it! Your student’s job is to plan and design a disguise for their turkey! Please use what every craft supplies you would like, and post all completed crafts to our Padlet! This is an optional activity. I will be mailing out a special small surprise to those who do choose to participate. 🙂
